Visitors enjoy a peaceful landscape of sandy beaches, deep blue ocean waters and palm trees silhouetting clear blue skies. Surfers, boaters and sun worshippers are drawn to Puerto Escondido, a Mexican paradise whose spectacular beaches entice visitors from all over Mexico and around the world. But despite being internationally known for fantastic surfing and beautiful vistas, the city maintains a peaceful and authentic atmosphere. Don’t expect to find a city overrun with tourists. Take scuba diving lessons or a day trip with a snorkelling guide. Feeling adventurous? Try some parasailing from an aeroplane or go for a horseback ride. Enjoy the sunset as you walk along the beach and around the scenic, natural lagoon. Barter for souvenirs at the local market stalls or pick up some work from a local artist at one of the galleries.
Puerto Escondido is an active resort city year-round, with the high season running from December to April. The dry season starts in October, making October and November ideal months for enjoying great weather and taking advantage of deals on air fares before the busy season begins.
