Santorini is as perfect in person as it is in the pictures. Located 125 miles southeast of mainland Greece, flights to Santorini are easy and quick, offering travelers optimal time on the exquisite island. If the white-washed houses don’t take your breath away, the red sand beaches are sure to leave you speechless.
While Santorini promotes its share of luxury, the island is also true to its roots. The food in Santorini is mostly made of the island’s agricultural products and the rich soil is a secret ingredient to the area’s notable wines. After you’ve wined and dined, take some time to explore the island. The museums tell the history of Santorini and the nightlife is famous around the world. Enjoy breakfast on the balcony of your Santorini hotel room overlooking the beaches before hitting the town for a day of shopping. From archaeological sites to days at the beach, there’s something for everyone on the island of Santorini.
Santorini is small Greek island situated roughly between Athens and Crete in the Aegean Sea. It has one primary airport that you will be landing at. The Santorini Thira International Airport (JTR) does not serve as a hub for any major airlines, but it welcomes commercial flights from carriers across the globe. British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, Aer Lingus, Ryanair, Volotea, Gulf Air, Olympic Air, and Aegean Airlines are among the airlines that fly into JTR on Santorini.
When you want to fly to Santorini from a US city, such as Miami, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Boston, Chicago, or Los Angeles, you are highly unlikely to find a non-stop flight. It is also unlikely that you will find a one-stop flight from these destinations. Usually, a flight from the US to Santorini has at least two stops along the way. The second stop is often in Athens (ATH). However, you can find a one-stop flight to Santorini from the Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), an airport that serves the New York City greater metropolitan area. Airlines that operate these flights with just one stop in Athens (ATH) include Emirates, Aegean Airlines, Lufthansa, Brussels Airlines, and SKY Express.
US citizens traveling to Greece for tourism or business must have a passport with at least one blank page for each stamp that you will receive along your journey. Greek law requires that your passport have three additional months of validity beyond your departure date from Greece. However, it is strongly recommended that your passport have at least 6 months of validity beyond your departure date. This is because some transit countries that you pass through may require the 6 months. If your passport does not have that, you may not be allowed to continue your journey to Greece. Business travelers and tourists do not need a visa as long as you depart Greece within 90 days.
