Broome has a Tropical climate with two seasons – dry and wet. The dry season runs from April to October. The wet season starts in November and runs until the end of March or so. During the dry season the weather is beautiful – warm days with clear, blue skies and balmy nights. The wet season features hot days and rain in the form of thunderstorms and torrential downpours.

Peak Season: 

Most visitors travel to Broome during mid-June and mid-August. 

Off Season: 

January to March is low season when the rain deters visitors. If you are going to be in the area between November and May, keep in mind that it’s “stinger season”, when the Box Jellyfish and Irukandji are found in the waters off Broome. 

Shoulder Season: 

April and May are shoulder season months when the tourist season is just starting off.

• Between Broome and Kooljaman is Beagle Bay, which has an amazing church. The white Sacred Heart Church was built by German Pallottine priests and brothers during the First World War when their movements were restricted. They decorated the interior of the church – especially the main altar – with mother-of-pearl shells. The side altars are decorated with opercula, a rare stone taken from shellfish. Time has taken its toll on the church and restoration and conservation projects are underway. 
• The Kooljaman resort is remote, isolated and pure heaven. It’s about 137 miles north of Broome on the Dampier Peninsula. The resort is jointly owned by the Cape Leveque Aboriginal communities One Arm Point and Djarindjin. Snorkeling, fishing and enjoying the empty beach are just some of the activities you can enjoy. 
• From July to October whale-watchers can observe the migrating whales breach offshore. 
• Sun Pictures is Broome’s outdoor cinema and the “oldest open air cinema in operation.” It opened in 1916. 
• Willie Creek Pearl Farm is about 22 miles from Broome. It’s a working pearl farm and offers demonstrations on pearl seeding. 
• If you are planning to visit Broome, try to time them so you’ll be there when there is a full moon. The Staircase to the Moon is a natural phenomenon caused by the reflection of the moon on the mud flats in Roebuck Bay at low tide. The illusion created is one of a staircase to the moon.
