Located in Wisconsin, the city of Oshkosh offers a fun mix of adventure, entertainment, historic interest, arts, crafts, and culture to enjoy. From the Sawdust Days Independence festival, which offers amusement parks, fireworks and Native American exhibits, to the Waterfest and Art Walk there is entertainment and cultural activities to suit just about every taste. Over the festive season, the Festival of Lights is held in Menominee Park where visitors can enjoy lights, music and sleigh rides. The annual country music festival is a great time to visit the city. Aircraft and air travel is very much a constant theme in the area and the EAA AirVenture event is a global aviation event which is one of the area’s most well attended attractions.
A good mix of restaurants is available in the city, from eateries selling steaks, seafood and sandwiches to pizza and other casual meals. The food is good, affordable and restaurants are warm and friendly. The Paine Art Center and Arboretum houses the local museum while the Oshkosh Public Museum showcases the history of the area, from its pre-settlement days to modern times. Nature lovers can take a trip on the Wolf River or do some yoga at one of the local studios. Visiting the planetarium is a great activity that the whole family can enjoy. Take the kids to Natural World to uncover the secrets of wild plants and animals or play golf on one of the city’s expert courses.
The city has a humid, continental climate, with hot summers and no dry season. Yearly temperatures range from 51 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. It seldom falls below -5 or gets hotter than 89 degrees. Warm weather lasts from May to September and cold weather sets in from November to March. Rainfall varies throughout the year, and most rain falls during January and February. September is the driest month in the city. Light snow also falls during February, and thunderstorms often occur in the region in July.
January to April is considered the off-peak season in the city and it is at this time that hotels, tourist attractions and airline companies offer their lowest rates. While many people do visit during winter to experience a white Christmas, it is by no means the busiest time of the year. However prices over this time and during school vacations are generally much higher.
There is a network of local buses which serve the city as well as trams which run in the area of AirVenture convention grounds. There are several taxi companies available in Oshkosh but for the utmost convenience, consider renting a car.
